Over 30 years ago, Earl and Irene Johnsmeyer, former counselor, coach, and both teachers at Lansing Rural High School, began a tradition of awarding scholarships to graduating seniors. In 1987, they founded the Lansing Kansas Scholarship Fund, Inc. which began with two scholarships.  One was in Irene's name and one for Frank Graham, (Graham Football Field is where you've seen that name). Those two have grown to 22 educational and memorial scholarships which have benefited over 450 graduates of Lansing High School, with over $436,000 toward their higher education!  LKSF Inc is a 501 (C) (3) non profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Earlier this week, I was invited to speak with the Lansing seniors and to share with them the legacy of the Johnsmeyers. The annual scholarships are Online this year, for the first time!  One application opens an opportunity for twenty-two scholarships provided by the LKSF Inc.

Visit the Lansing USD 469 website to read more about Earl and Irene Johnsmeyer and the other named scholarship honorees. Former teachers, and administrators of Lansing High School honored with scholarships include: Frank Graham, Helen Oliphant, Mable Mayhugh, Wilbur Barnes, Ted and Priscilla LoPresti, among others.  Memorial scholarships for some former students and graduates include John (Jack) Bergman, Donald McQuillan, Heidi Marie Page, Sean Ryan, Daniel Riemann, and John Wendel.  We hope their love of education and dedication to Lansing will live on through these annual scholarships.

If you are interested in setting up a scholarship, the form is included at the website,  www.USD469.net.

Special thanks to USD 469 and District coordinator, Nineveh Carvan, for allowing LKSF Inc space on the website, at.USD469.net.  Very special thanks to Christina Hoverson, who designed the pages for the biographical information on our scholarships and encouraged participation by the graduating seniors.  These students are the most recent beneficiaries of the generous Johnsmeyer legacy!

Awards will be presented at the Awards Night, May 17th, and funds will be distributed October 1 to the college/vocational/ technical school as named by the recipients.

Be sure to visit www.USD469.net to read about the scholarship honorees. At Menu, choose Community, then Lansing Kansas Scholarship Fund.

Online applications exceeded expectations! Graduating senior recipients will be named at Awards Night, May 18, 2017. Earl & Irene Johnsmeyer would be pleased!
